What is Clemson Lacrosse?
A Clemson University club team founded in 1977.
The team is part of the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA), a league filled with over 180 schools throughout the country. Specifically within the MCLA the team participates in the Southeastern Lacrosse Conference (SELC) which holds teams like University of South Carolina, University of Georgia, Liberty University, University of Alabama, and many others.
The past three years have been some of the best in team history with several players earning conference and national awards as well as an overall team record of 37-11. Throughout this time, the team has frequently been nationally ranked, ending the 2019 season at #18 in the entire MCLA.
What is it like playing Clemson Lacrosse?
Fall ball has no cuts and often starts the last week of August and runs through the end of October. It’s made up of three 2-hour practices per week at the lower IM fields next to the Fike Recreation Center.
Throughout the Fall, the team scrimmages teams such as Emmanuel College’s NCAA D-II sanctioned team, University of Georgia, and the Greenville Men’s team. The Fall season ends with a tournament in Clemson called the Southern Comfort Tournament where several teams come for a weekend of games.
The team starts practicing in the middle of January and keeps playing until the playoffs, typically at the end of April. The season is made up of four 2-hour practices a week on the upper IM fields, right next to Clemson Memorial Stadium (Death Valley). Weekends are typically made up of 1-2 games.
In the past, the team has held a limit to a 45-man travel roster and a 60-man home roster.
Every season brings a big trip where the team flies to play competition outside of the SELC conference, a necessity to potentially gaining a bid to nationals, along with other smaller trips to closer teams. Where the team has traveled in the past:
2017: Miami, Atlanta, Ole Miss
2018: Dallas, Auburn University, Atlanta, Elon/NC State/ECU
2019: Colorado, Florida State University, and Atlanta.
