What is Clemson Lacrosse?

A Clemson University club team was founded in 1977. Currently, the team is one of the many student-led organizations at Clemson University.

The team is part of the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA Division 1). The league consists of 180 teams from universities across the country. Currently, the team is a member of the Atlantic Lacrosse Conference(ALC) alongside teams such as Liberty University, Virginia Tech, and NC State among others.

The past three years have been some of the best in team history, with several players earning conference and national awards. Throughout this time, the team has frequently been nationally ranked in the top 20. Most recently, the team finished fourth in the MCLA national tournament in 2022!

What is it like playing Clemson Lacrosse?

-Fall season:

Limited cuts are made during the fall season in order to allow as many people to be a part of the team. The season often starts the first week of September and runs to the last weekend in October. It’s made up of two or three 2-hour practices a week at the upper IM fields next to Memorial Stadium

During the fall, we scrimmage local universities in both Georgia and South Carolina, such as The University of Georgia, SCAD, and Kennesaw State. These scrimmages are a great opportunity to get to know everyone and shake off the rust.

-Spring season:

The team starts practicing in the middle of January and keeps playing until mid to late March depending on playoff outcomes. During the regular season, you can expect around four two-hour practices each week.

The team has traditionally had up to a 50-man roster.

Every season includes a big trip where the team flies to compete outside of the ALC conference, a necessity to potentially gain a bid to nationals, as well as other smaller trips to closer teams. The shorter trips are most often times within the southeastern United States.

*Clemson Bridge students are unfortunately not allowed to be on the active spring roster. That being said, we select Clemson Bridge students to be practice players each year. We always want to include as many people as possible and always have volunteering options as well.

-Where the team has traveled in the past:

  • 2019: Colorado, Florida State University, and Atlanta.

  • 2020: California, Virginia Tech, Liberty

  • 2021: Tennessee, NC State, VT

  • 2022: Phoenix, Auburn, Liberty

  • 2023: UCLA, NC State, Tennessee

What are the costs?

As a club team, Clemson Lacrosse is a player-funded team, so it’s reliant on player dues and donations. We are constantly working towards making the team dues as low as possible for all players.

-Fall dues: Approximately $450.00 per player. Dues go to pinnies, practice shorts, shooting shirts, refs, and field payments.

-Spring dues: Approximately $1,500.00 per player. Dues cover all travel, apparel, equipment, and ALC membership expenses.
